Testing

Testing is required in grades 3rd, 5th and 8th. The results of the test must be in the portfolio for the evaluation.

The following is the list of approved tests in the state of PA:

  1. California Achievement Test
  2. Comprehensive Testing Program (CTPIV)
  3. Iowa Test of Basic Skills
  4. Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)
  5. Metropolitan Achievement Test
  6. Peabody Achievement Individual Test – Revised Version
  7. Stanford Achievement Test
  8. Terra Nova
  9. Woodcock-Johnson Revised Tests of Achievement
  10. Woodcock-Johnson
  11. Wechsler Individual Achievement Test

Some test require a proctor. Some require the proctor to be trained in giving the test. The most common test that I have found used among homeschoolers is the California Achievement Test (CAT).

The CAT offers a few options. You can take it online or on paper. You can choose an untimed or timed version. If you use the online version, you do not need a test proctor. The computer acts as the proctor. It will read the instructions and go through the samples with the student. If you choose the paper version you will need someone other than the homeschool supervisor/guardian to give the test. Any other person, friend, relative will do. That person will read through the questions, the samples, and keep track of time.

If you need someone to proctor your CAT test, I do offer services. Depending on whether you choose the time or untimed will make the length of the test vary. I like to split the test up into two days. Some students though may be able to get through it one day.

If I come to your house to give the test – $50 for the first day, $30 for the second if needed.

If you bring your child to my house – $30 for the first day, $15 for the second if needed.

The homeschool supervisor is required to purchase the test and have it available the day testing is scheduled.
